Breaking: Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Nnamdi Kanu's lawyer accuses military of lying, says law must take it's full course ..read more below
The lawyer to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Nigerian military misleading the public on the shoot out at the residence of Nnamdi Kanu on Sunday, September 10. Ifeanyi Ejiofor in a statement said the military's claim that members of the IPOB had blocked the road along World Bank in Umuahia while troops of the 145 Battalion was on a show of force is false. "It is the erroneous but most misleading position of the military, that Troops from 145 Battalion was on show of force along FMC work Bank Road in Umuahia town, Abia state, when the road was purportedly blocked by people they referred to as hoodlums," Ejiofor said.
Raising questions on the military claims, Ejiofor also said the Nigerian troops had no business carrying out such exercise at his client's residence. "How can military show of force exercise began from Nnamdi Kanu's residence? "Can exercise of such a sensitive, and far reaching security implication be extended to Nnamdi Kanu's residence at the time of the day?
Can they explain what lead to shooting innocent and unarmed people using life bullet? My simple answer to the foregoing, is that the military hierarchy is being economical/conservative with the truth, of their real motive?" Ejiofor asked. He also said that anybody familiar with the terrain and topography of Nnamdi Kanu's residence knows that it is not a convenience place for such military exercise. Ejiofor said: "There are established conventional routes within Umuahia and it's environs, convenient for the most touted show of force." "It is possible that they were unable to actualize their deadly mission of hitting at my client because of prompt alert, but not without recording monumental casualties. It's not impossible that they may be strategising on plan B, all targeted towards our client's possible elimination.
"Federal Government arrested my client client in October 2015 and consequently detained him for unreasonable length of time without trial, despite several court orders that directed for his unconditional release. "Due to their inability to open their case on account of unavailability of witnesses, they are now doing everything within their state powers to eliminate my client at all cost and by any means. "We still reiterate that the Buhari led administration and his trigger happy soldiers led by Chief of Army staff will be held responsible if anything happen to my client (Nnamdi Kanu). "Let the world be watching us, as they progress with their Pyton dance in Afaraukwu ibeku. We have initiated legal processes towards challenging these dastardly acts in court. In no distance time, we will have a date with them in court. They can't go unpunished this time. Law must take its full course."
Kanu in a recent statement after the military invasion of his residence said the Nigerian Army was engaging in a crude show of power on 'innocent and defenceless people of Biafra". He also urged all members of IPOB to remain calm amid the crisis between the group and the military in Umuahia.
