Cleric condemns IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanus continued detention ...read more!!!

The Bishop of Egbu (Anglican Communion) in Imo state, Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Okorafor, has condemned the continued detention of the Independent People of Biafra leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as an infringement on human right.
He said, “I don’t support the detention. If we follow the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Kanu is not supposed to be in detention up till this moment.
“If he has committed any crime, let there be Due Process. Detention or incarceration is not the Due Process.
“We have our law courts. He has to be prosecuted and if found culpable, let the matter run its course. Continued keeping him in detention is an infringement on his human rights and it is not justified.”
Okorafor spoke to our correspondent in his office on Wednesday. He stated that the dogged agitation for state of Biafra by the group had immediate and remote causes.
He said, “If the IPOB is crying out their heart, the Federal Government, which is the mother of all the ethnic nationalities in the country should find out why this agitation has been on and possibly find a lasting solution to it.
“The group should be summoned with a genuine intention to know why they are agitating and pacify the situation for lasting peace to reign in the country. No group should be isolated from the entire system. Where a group has scores to settle, it should not be treated with kid gloves for the good interest of the entire populace”.
Okorafor, however, contended that the IPOB’s agitation did not fully represent the position of the Southeast.
He said, “Some sections especially the “big heads” are sabotaging the efforts and that is why there may not be great success by IPOB”.
