Buhari sends fresh names of 46 non-career ambassadorial nominees to Senate


President Muhammadu Buhari has sent to the Senate a revised list of 46 non-career ambassadorial nominees for confirmation. In a letter sent, Thursday, to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari and read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki on the floor of the House, Buhari said “It is my hope that this will receive the usual attention of the senate.”

 “We submit the revised list of 46 non-career ambassadors for confirmation as ambassadors by the distinguished senate.” The newly submitted list has the following names:

 Recall that the first list presented in November was turned down by the Senate over numerous petitions against the nominees. Monsurat Sunmonu, chairman senate committee on foreign affairs, had been quoted as saying, ”I suggest we return the list of non-career ambassadors to the executive so that they can re-present it.

 There are about 200 petitions against the nominees, and we don’t even know where to start.” Also, Governors elected on the platform of the party had met with the president on different occasions to raise concerns over the list. Recall also that, two of the earlier nominees, Pauline Tallen, former deputy governor of Plateau state, and Usman Bugaje, from Katsina state, turned down their appointment offers.
