The leader of Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) Yerima Shettima on Friday, July 21, made a U-turn on the quit notice issued to the Igbos living in the North by the forum. Shettima while speaking with the Sun said Igbos who are living in the Northern part of Nigeria can continue to live there without fear of any form of attack.

The Arewa youth leader said: "They [Igbos] are safe. You can rest assured they are safe. You can quote me; they are safe in the North.

Responding to possibility of attack on these Nigerians living in the Northern region, Shettima added that; "They are safe. Events and time have changed the mindset of the northerner, not even me who represents their interest.

“No, they shouldn’t go. They should relax. Officially, we will make an announcement to that effect because it is a collective thing. So they can rest assured of their safety and security God willing. “We have no problems with the Igbo living in the North, but there are certain things we need to put in place so that officially at the level of the coalition we can make that statement.”

Shettima's new stand on the habitation of the Igbos in the Northern comes barely one month after he led his group to issue a three-month ultimatum - the Kaduna declaration - on Ndigbos in the region. NAIJ.com earlier reported that the forum while giving out the ultimatum also urged all Northerners in the south-eastern part of the country to immediately start moving back to their various states.

The forum said the ultimatum became necessary following the growing call for the break up of Nigeria by the Nnamdi Kanu led Indigenous People of Biafra. The group during its press conference in Kaduna said the Igbos have made much noise about leaving Nigeria and were free to go.
