Stakeholders in the politics of the South-East geo-political zone on Friday were full of praises for the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
They described the APC national chairman as a man of character, competence and credibility.
The leaders, who met in Awka, Anambra State, lauded Oyegun’s role in the fight for true federalism, ideals of democracy and enthronement of the rule of law in Nigeria.
They also commended him for protecting the integrity of the party, enhancing the cause of democracy and consolidating the strength and mass appeal of the ruling party in the country.
“APC is enjoying a sense of unanimity” they said.
The leaders while distancing from the calls on Oyegun to resign and secession in the name of restructuring, not only lashed at former Senate Majority Whip, Senator Kanti Bello, Imo Politician, Dr. Ezekiel Izuogu and Suspended Deputy National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Timi Frank over the statements credited to them but said critics of Oyegun and the APC-led Federal Government were wrong in their assessment of the achievements of the national chairman and the activities of the government.
They urged Bello, Izuogu and Frank not to obfuscate issues, polarize the party and drag the name of the national chairman and other prominent leaders through the mud.
Meeting under the auspices of the South-East Unity and Advancement Forum (SEUAM) to articulate the position of the zone in the politics of Nigeria, the leaders said Oyegun deserved commendation for advancing the course of the party.
They stated that the Federal Government has succeeded in all ramifications particularly ensuring an indivisible entity and enhancing the peaceful co-existence of the various ethnic groups in the country.
“The anti-corruption war has reached new heights with high profile prosecutions and unprecedented awareness.”
In a statement entitled, “South-East has spoke”, the leaders praised President Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for rising to the great possibilities of Nigeria, empowering the people, satisfying the economic and political yearnings of Nigerians, sorting out certain fundamental issues germane to the existence of the country and deepening good governance, accountability and transparency.
The statement which was signed by the Chairman of South-East Unity and Advancement Forum (SEUAM), Chief Maxwell Okoye, the leaders commended Buhari and Osinbajo for contributing immensely to sustenance of unity, stability, security and development at all levels of governance in Nigeria.
The leaders, who urged political office holders in the country to focus on the people and development of the economy, said it was high time Anambra State joined the mainstream of the nation’s politics.
They advised the Founder and General of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Babatunde Ayodele and other religious leaders to lend support to government in its efforts to develop the country.
“Continue to pray for Nigeria.”
